Who is Journeys?

Journeys, based in Tucson and Southern Arizona, is made of up a wide range of people with varying backgrounds, educational and work experience, homeschooling methods, religions, and politics. But it is Journeys members' common objective--creating social and learning opportunities for our homeschooled children--that informs each decision, event, activity, and gathering.

Everything that Journeys does is member-created and member-driven. Journeys was founded with a couple of ideas in mind. One, that it would become a community for its members, where homeschooling families would have easy ways to connect with each other and develop close bonds. And two, that the best and most useful group would be one that members were themselves actively involved in creating and maintaining

Quick facts

• Journeys is a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation.

• Journeys operates with a code of conduct, mission statement, board of directors, and bylaws.

• Members must be homeschoolers, operating independently of "public school at home" programs.

• Journeys membership requires 10 hours of volunteered time per year for each family. This requirement can be filled many ways. For example, activity planning/coordinating, contributing as a member of a committee, or simply helping out as needed all count toward the 10 hour requirement.

• Annual dues are $20.00 per family, and a family's membership year is calculated by the date that the family joined.

• Membership dues are paid electronically via PayPal, and payments for most group activities are also made via PayPal (no individual PayPal account is required for members to make payments).

• The Journeys calendar of events and activities is available on its Yahoo! Group web site.
Each family must have an active email account. In addition, members are urged to obtain a Yahoo! ID so that they can fully utilize the materials available on the Yahoo! Group site, including the Journeys calendar.

• Journeys is not a homeschooling support group, nor is it designed to help people learn how to homeschool.

Journeys depends on member involvement. Active participation ensures both that things happen, and that what does happen is interesting, engaging, and satisfying.
